History

Royston Funeral Home Inc has been serving the Middleburg and Marshall area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.

Royston Funeral Home was founded in 1896 in the building behind the present Leckner Ford by Zachariah V. Royston, Sr. As was frequent at that time he was a furniture maker and Norris Royston, Jr. has a desk he made which was used by a Marshall resident to pay her bills daily until she passed away at age 105. His son Lewis H. Royston moved the business to its present location at 4125 Rectortown Road.

The building was constructed by James Brady and his son also Marshall residents. Lewis was joined by his son Norris Royston, Sr. in 1932. At that time he moved to Middleburg and started Royston Funeral Home Middleburg. Following the death of Lewis H. Royston, Norris Royston, Sr. ran both locations until his death in 1970. At that time Tyler M. Gore Jr. who is related and the Royston Family operated the business until Tyler’s retirement in 2018.

The Royston Family and Carl Nichols with our new team are proud to enter the sixth generation of the family business in Middleburg and Marshall. We remain family-centered in personal service to the residents of Western Loudoun and Fauquier Counties and the surrounding area.
